Kazakhstan to sell remote sensing satellite to Mongolia
ASTANA. Oct 29 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan and Mongolia have signed an investment agreement aimed at creation and development of a remote sensing system, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and the Aerospace Industry said in a press release on Tuesday.
"This project provides for development of a satellite for Mongolia, which will become part of the Kazakh-Mongolian remote sensing group," the press release says.
The document was signed during the official visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Mongolia.
Independent management of the satellites by Kazakhstan and Mongolia will give both countries access to the data that are necessary for the monitoring of natural resources and development of agriculture, according to the press release.
"This is the first time Kazakhstan ever exports its satellite, which was designed by local engineers. The satellite will be adjusted to the needs of Mongolia, which will strengthen the regional satellite infrastructure and will mark Kazakhstan's growing potential in space technology," Kazakh Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Minister Zhaslan Madiyev is quoted as saying.
The project will be carried out at the National Space Center of Kazakhstan with the participation of Mongolian engineers. Specialists from Kazakhstan will give training to their Mongolian colleagues during all stages of the project, according to the press release.
