Turkmenkhimiya considers building second GTL plant with 600,000 tpy capacity

ASHGABAT. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Turkmen state concern Turkmenhimiya is looking at the possibility of building a second plant for producing gasoline from natural gas (the gas-to-liquid or GTL process), Turkmenhimiya Chairman Dovrangeldy Sapbayev said at the Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2024 conference.

The facility's proposed capacity is 600,000 tonnes per year. The design process has not yet begun.

As reported, the first GTL plant in Turkmenistan's Akhal region was launched in 2019. It is capable of processing 1.785 billion cubic meters of gas a year and producing 600,000 tonnes of Eco-93 gasoline as well as 12,000 tonnes of diesel fuel and 115,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

In the near future, Turkmenhimiya also plans to design and build an ammonia plant with a capacity of 660,000 tonnes per year and a carbamide production facility with a capacity of 1.155 million tonnes per year in the country's Balkan region. It will also build a complex for producing phosphate fertilizers with a capacity of 350,000 tonnes, ammonium sulfate (100,000 tonnes) and crushed sulfur (70,000 tonnes) at the Turkmenabat Chemical Plant.

The intensive development of gas chemistry aligns with Turkmenistan's priority objectives, the report said. It is expected that this will serve as a powerful stimulus for the innovative growth of the whole economy.

Turkmenhimiya invites foreign partners to participate in investing in and implementing new chemical industry projects.
