Supplies of Turkmen gas to Iraq expected to start by end of year - Turkmengas state concern

ASHGABAT. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Turkmengas state gas concern expects to start supplying Turkmen gas to Iraq under a swap deal via Iran by the end of the year, Murad Archayev, deputy board chairman of Turkmengas, told Interfax.

"We expect supplies to start by the end of the year," Archayev said on the sidelines of the Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2024 international conference and exhibition.

As reported, Ashgabat and Tehran in July this year signed a contract to sell 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year, to be supplied from Turkmenistan to Iraq via Iran under a swap deal. Iranian companies will construct a 125-km gas pipeline and three gas compressor stations in Turkmenistan, as required to supply the additional volumes of gas to Iran, in order to expand the gas transportation infrastructure.

Archayev also said that the parties signed a document last week that directly defines the terms and conditions for the supplies. "A joint declaration was literally signed on the 19th of the month with the Iraqi side, according to which deliveries will already be fulfilled," he said.
