Ukraine's honey exports up by 1.7-fold in M9 2024
MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Ukraine's honey exports by volume increased by 1.7-fold to 64,913 tonnes and went up 44.3% to $124.817 million by value in January-September 2024 year-on-year.
The largest importer was Germany, which bought Ukrainian honey for $27.627 million in January-September 2024, accounting for 22.13% of Ukraine's honey exports in the reporting period, Ukrainian media said, citing statistics from Ukraine's State Customs Service.
The United States and France purchased Ukrainian honey for $20.139 million and $14.63 million, respectively, accounting for 16.1% and 11.7% of Ukraine's honey exports over this period.
The top three buyers of Ukrainian honey in January-September 2023 were Germany (24.9%), Poland (16%) and France (7.32%). Over that period, they bought Ukrainian honey for $21.5 million, $13.88 million, and $6.332 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's honey imports in January-September 2024 rose 36.1% to 200 tonnes, standing at $105,000. It bought 75 tonnes (37.5% of all honey imports) from Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina each, and 44 tonnes of honey from Romania (22%).
In January-September 2023, Ukraine imported honey only from Poland in an amount of 122 tonnes.
As reported, Ukraine has been among the world's five largest honey exporters over the past few years. In particular, Ukraine ranked fourth among the world's traditional top honey exporters in 2023 with 55,400 tonnes, below China, which exported 152,600 tonnes in 2023, India with 98,700 tonnes, and Argentina with 68,900 tonnes. Brazil ranked fifth, exporting 28,500 tonnes in 2023.
