Ukrainian Energy Ministry reports power supply cuts in several regions

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Power supply was restricted on Monday in certain areas of the Chernigov and Dnepropetrovsk regions of Ukraine and in the Kiev-controlled parts of the Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye regions, Ukrainian media reported citing the Energy Ministry's statement.

An overhead power transmission line shutdown in the Dnepropetrovsk region cut off power supply to a number of local households and industrial consumers and prompted power supply entities to reduce voltage. Power supply has now been resumed, the ministry said.

Another 1,568 households had no electricity in the Chernigov region.

As of Monday morning, a total of 517 communities across Ukraine were completely or partially cut off from power for various reasons, including technical breaches.

Adverse weather caused power cuts in 70 communities in four regions, including 26 in the Odessa region, 14 in the Kiev region, 10 in the Chernigov region, 12 in the Nikolayev region, seven in the Kirovograd region, and one in the Cherkasy region.

The national power grid operator Ukrenergo said that, in general, power consumption in Ukraine tends to grow, its level as of 9:30 a.m. on Monday was 2.8% higher than on the previous working day, October 4, and a consumption peak recorded on the evening of October 6 was 3.2% higher than on the previous Sunday, September 29

Ukraine planned to import 1,872 MW/h of electricity from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Moldova on Monday, down nearly 55% from last Friday.
