Ukrainian ports' cargo turnover grows 1.8 times over past 9 months - Kiev

MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Ukrainian ports increased cargo transshipment by 1.8 times to 74 million tonnes in January-September 2024, Ukrainian media said, citing the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.

"According to current information from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, Ukrainian sea ports transshipped 74 million tonnes of cargo in January-September 2024, which is much more than in the respective period of last year, when the volumes stood at 41.1 million tonnes," the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said on a social network.

Agrarian products account for a sizable part of the cargo turnover, 46.3 million tonnes, which indicates their importance for the national economy and exports, it said.

The ports transshipped 7 million tonnes of cargo in September, twice as much as in September 2023, when 3.4 million tonnes of cargo were transshipped, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said. Of that amount, exported agricultural products totaled 4.1 million tonnes.

As reported earlier, 7 million tonnes of cargo were transshipped by Ukrainian ports in August 2024, mostly grain (4 million tonnes) and ore (1.2 million tonnes).

Meanwhile, the cargo turnover through the maritime corridor unilaterally opened by Kiev stood at 5.9 million tonnes in August, of which 3.6 million tonnes were agrarian products.

In all, Ukrainian ports transshipped almost 67 million tonnes of cargo in January-August 2024, versus 37.7 million tonnes in the respective period of last year.
