Russian power generation up 3.3% in 8M - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Russia generated 795 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-August 2024, up 3.3% year-on-year, the State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.

Thermal power plants produced 504 billion kWh, up 3.1% year-on-year, nuclear plants produced 139 billion kWh, down 2.4%, and hydropower plants produced 147 billion kWh, up 10.4%.

Russia generated 825 million Gcal of heat in 8M 2024, up 3.7% year-on-year. Boiler plants produced 388 million Gcal, up 3.6%, thermal plants 376 million Gcal, up 4.6%, and industrial recovery units 60.1 million Gcal, down 0.4%.

Rosstat has said Russia produced 704 billion kWh of electricity in January-July 2024. The July figure based on Rosstat data for 7M and 6M 2024 was 91 billion kWh. Similarly, the August figure ought to have been 91 billion kWh also, but Rosstat said output fell 1.5% in August. As usual, it did not give an absolute figure for the month, which suggests figures for previous months could have been revised.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said earlier in the Energy Policy publication said that power consumption reached 1.139 trillion kWh and production totaled 1.152 trillion kWh in Russia last year. Power consumption totaled 1.124 trillion kWh and electricity output was estimated at 1.139 trillion kWh in 2022, as previously reported, meaning that consumption rose 1.3% year-on-year and production grew 1.14% year-on-year in 2023, according to the data presented by Novak.
