Tkachev Agrocomplex aims to keep rice harvest flat at 190,000 tonnes in 2024

KRASNODAR. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Tkachev Agrocomplex, one of Russia's largest agribusiness groups, plans to harvest 190,000 tonnes of rice in 2024, the company told Interfax.

"The rice harvest at the agribusiness group's farms began in the first days of September. More than 60% of the harvest has already been gathered. We plan to complete the harvest in ten days, around October 5. The average yield across the group as of September 26 is 0.70 tonnes per hectare, at last year's level. We expect to get a harvest at last year's level," the company said.

The group planted rice on 27,000 hectares this year, the same as in 2023. It used a high-yield Russian-bred rice variety.

Krasnodar Territory is Russia's largest rice growing regions, accounting for about 70% of the country's rice production. The region grows more than 40 varieties of rice. The rice crop area in the region increased by 7% to 117,400 hectares this year.

Kranodar's gross rice harvest grew by 23% to almost 800,000 tonnes in 2023 and the regional authorities expect a similar figure this year.
