Minsk considering several dates for Belarusian presidential election
MINSK. Sept 10 (Interfax) - Belarus is considering four dates for the 2025 presidential election, Belarusian Central Elections Commission head Igor Karpenko said on Tuesday.
"I will not deny that four possible dates for the presidential election have been mentioned. But consultations need to be held in order to name them. Obviously, the House of Representatives will make the decision at its meeting," the Belarusian state-run news agency BelTA quoted Karpenko as saying.
By law, the Belarusian presidential election must be held no later than July 20, 2025, he said.
"At the same time, the decision is made by parliament members, the House of Representatives of the National Assembly. We will hold a series of consultations with MPs after the session opens on September 17," Karpenko said.
