Almost 90% of Georgian voters to cast ballots electronically in parliamentary elections - CEC

TBILISI. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Almost 90% of Georgian voters will cast ballots electronically in the parliamentary elections of October 26, 2024, Georgian Central Elections Commission (CEC) spokesperson Natia Ioseliani said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The Elections Commission will apply electronic election technologies on the largest scale for the first time in the history of Georgia's elections on October 26, she said.

For instance, votes will be counted and voters will be verified in the electronic format, Ioseliani said.

Georgia will elect 150 parliament members for four years on October 26.

According to Ioseliani, 3,030 polling stations will open, and 2,262 of them will offer electronic voting while 768 will use traditional ballots.

Earlier on Tuesday, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili formally scheduled parliamentary elections for October 26. The election campaign also began on Tuesday.
