Gas consumption in Russia hits new summer record - Gazprom

MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Current natural gas consumption in Russia in the area of Gazprom's Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS) hit a new summer record.

Daily gas supplies from Russia's UGSS hit a new summer record of 701.8 million cubic meters of gas on August 23, the company said on Sunday.

"Gazprom has been regularly supplying Russians with record volumes of gas since the beginning of this summer. Daily records for gas supplies from Russia's UGSS for June, July and August were broken 15 times, including the August 23 high," the statement said.

"Crucially, elevated consumer demand for gas in the summer season is being met while the usual scheduled maintenance is carried out at UGSS facilities and gas is being pumped into Russian underground storage facilities," it said.

The Unified Gas Supply System is Gazprom's network of trunk gas pipelines, which covers the European part of Russia and Siberia to Altai and the Kemerovo region. Parts of the country further east are served by autonomous gas transport systems, which are expected to be connected to the system in future.
