Zelensky submits bill ratifying ICC's Rome Statute to Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and amendments to it, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to the website of the Ukrainian parliament.

According to an explanatory note for the bill, Ukraine will ratify the Rome Statute and statements on the procedure of communication with the ICC, and "Ukraine will not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court with regard to its citizens in the crimes under Article 8 of the Rome Statute [war crimes]" for seven years after it enters into effect.

The Rome Statute ratification is one of the conditions of Ukraine's accession to the European Union, media outlets said.
