Life expectancy for women in Russia exceed 78 years, men live 10 years less - Russian deputy health minister

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - Life expectancy for women in Russia is 78.7 years; women in Russia live ten years longer than men, Russian Deputy Health Minister Yevgenia Kotova said.

"The number of long-livers in the world is increasing, most long-livers are women. Women live longer than men worldwide, and in our country they live ten years longer. According to the State Statistics Service, life expectancy for women is already 78.7 years," Kotova said at the forum Healthy Society on Thursday.

The factors that influence the early death risk for men include "harmful alcohol consumption and smoking," she said.

"Such factors are almost three times more frequent in men, and in combination with risky behavior, biological determinants of men's age, absence of commitment to preventative programs it makes men a special category that needs special attention, and new work formats need to be sought," she said.

The possible formats include visits to enterprises where men work, during which illnesses will be diagnosed, risk factors will be determined, and men will be motivated to led a healthy lifestyle, Kotova
