Togliattiazot launches third ammonia production unit from reserve

SAMARA. July 8 (Interfax) - JSC Togliattiazot (TOAZ), amid demand for ammonia and mineral fertilizers on the domestic market, has launched the No. 3 ammonia production unit that had been in reserve since October 2023, the ammonia and urea producer's press service said.

Activating the No. 3 Kemiko ammonia unit was an addition to the respective No. 5, No. 6, and No. 7 units of the GIAP organization operating at the industrial site.

Boosting output of production volumes resulted in shipments increasing 22% year-on-year in the first half of the year.

"Togliattiazot's products are in high demand among both farmers and specialists in other fields. Therefore, it is very important for the company to meet market demands. Optimizing the production processes should ensure the required volume of products," JSC Togliattiazot Chief Engineer Andrei Kurgin said in the statement.

Preparing for launch and reaching the design load required four days and proceeded as usual.

As reported, TOAZ boosted output of urea 1.8-fold year-on-year to 1.64 million tonnes in 2023, as well as production of ammonia 13.4% year-on-year to 1.601 million tonnes.

TOAZ produced 913,000 tonnes of urea and 3.051 million tonnes of ammonia in 2021. That year's ammonia production figure was a record for the entire operation of the enterprise, and the second highest for urea, behind the 915,000 tonnes produced in 1990. The enterprise has not disclosed figures for 2022.
