Bipartisan U.S. Congress delegation visits Kiev

MOSCOW. July 2 (Interfax) - A bipartisan United States Congress delegation arrived in Kiev on Monday, July 1, to demonstrate its support for Ukraine and receive information on what kind of assistance it needs from the U.S., Ukrainian media quoted Mike Turner, chairman of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as saying at a press briefing in Kiev on Monday evening.

Turner said he came to Ukraine along with a group of American lawmakers specializing in national and international security matters, who received very good briefings and updates both from U.S. officials posted in Kiev and from Ukrainian ones as to how the U.S. could continue its support.

He said the U.S. congressional delegation had met previously with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Ronny Jackson, a Republican U.S. representative, thanked Zelensky for inviting the delegation to Ukraine and said the U.S. was learning a lot from what was happening in Ukraine.

Another Republican representative, Tony Gonzales, said that, regardless of who is in the White House at a given moment, Congress must support America's allies all over the world, and said visit could be seen as an important part of this approach, as allies should be supported not only in good but also in difficult times.
