Georgian parliament overrides presidential veto on changes to Electoral Code for 9th time
TBILISI. June 27 (Interfax) - The Georgian parliament overrode Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili's latest, ninth veto on changes to the country's Electoral Code on Thursday.
The changes to the Electoral Code considerably reduce the legitimacy of the decisions made by members of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), as decisions will be made by a simple majority of CEC members (nine of its 17 members), rather than by two thirds of its members, presidential parliamentary secretary Giorgi Mskhiladze said during debates on overriding the veto.
Representatives of the parliamentary majority said the changes to the Electoral Code are fully in line with similar laws of EU states.
