Ukraine's market of new commercial vehicles grows 18% in May 2024 - Ukrautoprom

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - The number of primary registrations of new commercial vehicles (trucks and special vehicles) in Ukraine increased 18% to 1,127 in May 2024 year-on-year, and was also 7% higher than in April 2024, Ukrainian media outlets said, citing Ukrautoprom, the national association of motor vehicle manufacturers, as saying on social media.

The May 2024 top five brands of commercial vehicles in Ukraine were Renault (305 vehicles sold in May), Citroen (115), MAN (92), Ford (86), and Iveco (53), Ukrautoprom said. Meanwhile, Scania, which was the second best-selling brand in Ukraine in April, did not make it to May's top five.

As reported earlier, citing Ukrautoprom figures, 955 trucks and special vehicle were sold in Ukraine in May 2023 versus 406 sold in May 2022. The top five brands in May 2023 were Renault (327 vehicles), Volkswagen (81), Mercedes-Benz (66), Citroen (66), and Peugeot (52).

More than 5,000 new vehicles joined Ukraine's stock of trucks and special vehicles in January-May 2024, which is 22% more than in the same period the year before, Ukrautoprom said.

Meanwhile, according to the AUTO-Consulting information and analytical group, the sales of new trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tonnes in Ukraine rose 19% to over 400 trucks in May 2024 year-on-year, enabling this market segment to post a 5% growth in the first five months of the year.

Scania, which topped the list in April 2024, lost this position to MAN, which reported a 21% rise in truck sales in Ukraine. It was followed by Volvo, whose sales soared 71%. Ford Trucks was in third place.

Isuzu and a number of Chinese brands, such as Howo, DongFeng and JAC, reported an increase in its sales on the Ukrainian market.

AUTO-Consulting also analyzed sales in the segment of vehicles for business, which has always been a "litmus test" of sentiments among the economically active segment of the country's population.

According to its experts, supplies of in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment (vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tonnes) dropped 2.9% in May 2024 year-on-year, but the market still demonstrated a 22% growth in January-May 2024.

At the same time, there was no sharp increase in demand for electric vans, only six of which were purchased in May 2024 versus two in May 2023, accounting for less than 1% of the new LCVs market, AUTO-Consulting said.

The leader was Renault with a 38% share of the segment.

As reported, the registrations of new commercial vehicles in Ukraine rose 65% to 11,300 in 2023 year-on-year, Ukrautoprom said. According to AUTO-Consulting data, the segment of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5. tonnes grew 56.5% to 4,853.
