Zelensky proposes Rada terminate protocol to CIS agreement on legal guarantees of military service members

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada pass legislation on Ukraine's withdrawal from a protocol to an agreement between the CIS member states on social and legal guarantees of military service members, individuals who retired from military service, and their family members dated February 14, 1992.

The Rada registered the bill on Thursday, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the parliament's website.

An explanatory note to the bill motivates Ukraine's withdrawal from the protocol by Russia's policy with regard to Ukraine and Belarus's support for it.

The protocol stipulates that military service members, individuals who retired from military service, and their family members moving from one CIS country to another for permanent residence shall be entitled to the same rights, benefits, guarantees, and compensations to which individuals of the same categories are entitled under laws and regulations of the country chosen for permanent residence.

Ukraine signed the protocol to the agreement drafted in Moscow on January 25, 2000 with reservations.
