Zelensky proposes Rada terminate agreement with Belarus on mutual facilitation of citizenship change

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada terminate an agreement between Ukraine and Belarus on facilitating the procedure for changing citizenship for Ukrainian citizens permanently living in Belarus and Belarusian citizens permanently living in Ukraine.

The Rada registered the bill on Thursday, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the parliament's website.

An explanatory note to the document says that the move was prompted by Minsk's support for Russia's policy.

As reported, Ukraine and Belarus signed said agreement on March 12, 1999. Ukraine ratified the agreement on October 21, 1999, and it came into force in Ukraine on April 8, 2000.
