Interfax selects winners of Young Leaders for Efficient Development in Russia contest

Interfax has selected the winners of the Young Leaders for Efficient Development in Russia contest, which was organized as part of the Interfax-ERA environmental and energy rating agency.

The aim of the contest is to find young professionals that can analyze crisis aspects in terms of environmental and energy efficiency in the economy and not so much according to exchange rate or share price dynamics, which are phantom indicators that respond to the rhetoric of heads of state.

"Those in business and in authority taking decisions during the crisis need to be guided not just by the desire and mood of sellers or buyers or by prices for goods or shares. It is time to consider the fundamental laws of self-organization for complex systems, to constantly and consequently optimize the use of resources and energy in real technical, economic and nature systems, which make up the world around us," said Alexander Martynov, the head of the Interfax-ERA project.

Margarita Chernovalova and Ekaterina and Anastasia Danilenkova from Smolensk received first place for their work on Finding ways to increase the environmental efficiency of engineering sector companies based on the application of modern hi-technologies.

Tatiana Grigoryeva of Moscow came second with her work on the Efficiency of energy generating companies in the Northwest Federal District in the context of stable development. Sergei Shkiotov, Ilya Solonnikov and Ivan Sotkin from Yaroslavl won third place with their work: Analysis of the (eco-energetic) dynamics of fundamental efficiency in the Central Federal District in 2000-2012.

The authors of six entries were awarded diplomas for their participation.
There were a total of 30 entries of which 11 went through to the final round.
"This modest result for Russia demonstrates that classic financial approaches currently dominate in the economic arena. Thus, when evaluating the innovation of the approaches of the participants, we invited them to continue working in a non-financial evaluation of economic activity," Martynov said.

Interfax-ERA presented participants with unique information about the fundamental efficiency of the Russian economy, of various industries and regions in 2000 to 2012, which covers a key period of modern development in Russia, including the first phase of the global crisis.

*** Interfax environmental and energy rating agency is a project aimed at creating a system of evaluation for the environmental and energy efficiency of national economies, regions and companies.

The Interfax-ERA rating system includes parameters for energy consumption, production efficiency, regional and social aspects and so on, making the economic and financial consequences of processes clearer and the physical essence of how the country, regions and companies function. Its unique environmental and energy efficiency analysis method enables the monitoring of stable development programs for the country as a whole, separate regions and companies in different sectors.
The ratings are for the companies themselves, their creditors and investors and for the government when working with the environmental factor in decision making.
