Transportation of Russian gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan nearly to triple in 2024

ASTANA. March 27 (Interfax) - Russian transportation of gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan should rise nearly threefold year-on-year to 3.8 billion cubic meters in 2024, the Kazakh Energy Ministry told Interfax.

"As part of the signed agreement on strategic cooperation between PJSC Gazprom and the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, increasing the annual volume of Russian gas transportation to Uzbekistan from 1.28 bcm in 2023 to 3.8 bcm in 2024," the ministry said.

According to the agency, 1.114 billion cubic meters of Russian gas were delivered to Uzbekistan in January-February 2024.

As reported, in June 2023 Gazprom and Kazakhstan's QazaqGaz signed a contract for the provision of services for the transportation of Russian natural gas through Kazakhstan for Uzbek consumers. In October 2023, a launch ceremony for deliveries took place. Deliveries are organized in reverse mode via a specially designated route via the Central Asia-Center gas trunkline system.

Later it was revealed that the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan is due to increase almost 4-fold from 2026, up to 11 bcm/year.
