Activist Kotov's lawyers want to appeal his sentence
MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax) - The lawyers of Konstantin Kotov, who was sentenced to four years' imprisonment for repeat violations of the rules for holding mass events, will appeal his sentence, lawyer Maria Eismont said.
"Yes, we will. There is nothing to even comment on," Eismont said in reply to a relevant question from Interfax.
At the same time, people who attended the trial carried out spontaneous action in support of the activist.
After pronouncement of the sentence, people started crying out slogans backing Kotov, an Interfax correspondent reported.
Bailiffs, in turn, began pushing the crowd from the courthouse toward the court's exit.
At present, people remain outside the Tverskoi District Court building, chanting "Freedom for Kotov!" Police vans are parked near the court building, and police officers are monitoring developments.
As reported earlier, the Tverskoi District Court on Thursday sentenced Kotov to four years in a general security penal colony, finding him guilty of repeat violations of the rules on holding public events.
