Donbas isn't satisfied with decentralization suggested by Kyiv - DPR envoy to TCG
DONETSK. Sept 4 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian side insists on decentralization, refusing to grant a special status to Donbas, which is unacceptable for the republic, Natalya Nikonorova, the Donetsk People's Republic's (DPR) envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, told journalists.
"The Ukrainian side insists on its version of decentralization without formalizing the republics' special status in the Constitution, which directly contradicts the Minsk Package of Measures. Such attitude to the key item of the Minsk Agreements, which had been achieved with such difficulties, can only be met with bewilderment," she said, commenting on the outcomes of the meeting of the subgroup for political issues.
The authorities in Kyiv must realize that "the return to the peaceful co-existence of Ukraine and Donbas on the old terms is impossible," she said.
"The special status aimed at alleviating fundamental disagreements remains the only and essential condition of the establishment of peace in the region," Nikonorova said.
The DPR envoy once again emphasized the need to begin a constructive discussion of the political items on the agenda, as the lasting and comprehensive resumption of peace in Donbas depends on the implementation of them alone.
