Putin, Modi see helicopters intended for delivery to India
VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin briefed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the advantages of Kamov Ka-226T light multirole helicopters, which Russia is planning to deliver to India as part of the intergovernmental agreement signed in 2015.
"I flew on board this helicopter, I liked it, and it is very comfortable. It is good as it has coaxial rotors, but it has no rear rotor, and it can withstand the lateral wind load in the highlands and at sea," Putin told the Indian prime minister.
This technology enables helicopters to land on the deck, the Russian president said.
This machine has a module design, as a transport or medical module can be mounted on it, as well as a high-class passenger module depending on the needs of the customer, which is the Indian Defense Ministry, according to a Russian Helicopters representative.
The intergovernmental agreement requires the delivery of 60 Russian helicopters for the needs of the Indian Defense Ministry and the manufacture of 140 more machines in India with localization of about 50-70%.
"This is exactly what you call 'Make in India' [the program of support to Indian domestic industry]," Putin said.
The Indian prime minister also saw a Mil Mi-171A2 civil helicopter. Russia is starting to supply these helicopters to India as part of the previously concluded contract.
