2018 Olympics opening to be attended by around 70 people from "Olympic Athletes from Russia" team
MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - About 70 members of the team of "Olympic Athletes from Russia" will attend the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, according to the Teamrussia.pro online portal.
"Some 70-75 people from our delegation will attend the ceremony: ice hockey team players, snowboarders, sledgers, alpine skiers and trampoline jumpers, representatives of freestyle, cross-country skiing, bobsleigh and skeleton, speed skaters," the website stated.
The Russian Olympic Committee's First Vice President Stanislav Pozdnyakov, who is leading the Russian delegation, has expressed his bewilderment at the reports that the Russians might boycott the ceremony.
"I can't say why some Russian media outlets today would need to publish blatant lies about 'boycotting' the opening ceremony, especially in the current, already complicated situation where such provocations would lead to nothing good. Our delegation will definitely attend the opening ceremony," Pozdnyakov said.
