Putin pledges favorable conditions for Japanese investments, current projects
ST. PETERSBURG. May 25 (Interfax) - Russia will do everything to provide favorable conditions for Japanese investments in its economy, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"I want to assure you that, on our part, we will be doing everything to ensure favorable conditions both for investments and for the current economic activity," Putin said at a penal discussion dedicated to Russia-Japan business dialogue at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is also attending the event.
Sentiments in Russian-Japanese relations give the two countries hope for the multifold increase in investments and bilateral trade, the Russian president said.
The amount of investments is enormous and stands at $2 billion now, he said. The bilateral trade is also moderate, with approximately $18 billion last year, the president said. "All this can be markedly increased. We know that our Japanese friends are interested in expanding our relations," Putin said.
