Browder named defendant in 5 criminal cases in Russia - Chaika (Part 2)
MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax) - Russia will continue its effort to hold financier William Browder liable, according to Prosecutor General Yury Chaika.
"We have achieved a lot. He is a defendant in five criminal cases opened in Russia on counts of murder, establishment of a criminal group, and laundering of 5 billion rubles," Chaika said at the Federation Council.
"Russia will continue its effort to hold [Browder] liable," he added.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has been futilely trying for years to achieve the detention and extradition of Browder, who is convicted by Russia in absentia of a series of grave financial felonies. Interpol has removed Browder from its list of wanted fugitives and defined the case as politically motivated.
The spokesman for the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, Alexander Kurennoi, told Interfax on April 9 that Russia had submitted additional materials, including ones regarding Browder, to Interpol.
The Russian lawyer of the Hermitage Capital founder told Interfax he had not been informed about the request filed by the Russian authorities with Interpol.
