Azerbaijan power line fire broke out simultaneously in two areas - Azerenerji chief
BAKU. July 12 (Interfax) - The power supply disruptions in Azerbaijan on Thursday evening were caused by two fires that broke out simultaneously under power lines in two districts, Azerenerji chief Etibar Pirverdiyev said.
"Fires under power lines broke out simultaneously in Yevlakh and Agsu, and this raises many questions. We had to turn off the power supply in Baku and Sumqayit. We are now waiting for the completion of the firefighting work," local media quoted Pirverdiyev as saying.
There are currently no problems at the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant, where a fire occurred last week, he said.
The fires led to Baku and several other regions switching to restricted power mode at 4 p.m. local time.
Power supply to Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and several other regions has been restricted by 27%. Critical public infrastructure such as Baku's subway system and the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, water and sewage systems, and government facilities are in full power mode.
