Russian marines get "Ratnik" infantry combat system - Navy

MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax) - All members of the Russian naval infantry have received the "Ratnik" combat gear system with a floating bulletproof vest, the Russian Navy coastal troops' deputy chief Dmitry Gnezdilov said.

"The Ratnik combat gear system has been delivered to all naval infantry units," he said on the Ekho Moskvy radio station on Saturday.

The "Ratnik" for marines is distinct in that it has a special floating bulletproof vest called "Korsar," Gnezdilov said. "It is not inflatable, with it a marine can swim calmly in water," the coastal troops' representative said.

Shipments of modern types of equipment for the naval infantry continue, Gnezdilov also said. "This year we finished fitting out the Northern Fleet with BTR-82As [armored carriers]," the colonel said.

The Ratnik system is a combat gear system, also referred to as "the future soldier kit."

The "Ratnik" is part of a wider project to raise the quality of every soldier on the battlefield by using the latest scientific achievements in the field of navigation, night-vision systems, monitoring of a soldier's mental and physiological condition, and advanced materials in the manufacture of armor and clothing fabrics. The system is a complex of modern means of individual protection, communications, weapons and munitions.
