Cooperation with China on cybersecurity important - Naryshkin
MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Russia is satisfied with the way its cooperation with China develops in the sphere of information technologies, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said at a meeting with China's Huawei Vice President Amy Lin.
For her part, Amy Lin said the company is set to increase investment in the Russian market.
"We are satisfied with the way our cooperation is developing in the IT sphere, both at the inter-governmental level and at the level of our companies' cooperation in this sphere," Naryshkin said.
It is important to coordinate steps in areas such as information and Internet security and de-monopolization of the IT market, the speaker said. "I know Huawei is actively involved in these efforts," he said
Russia is closely studying international experience in cybersecurity, the Duma speaker said. "We believe society must be able, including technically, to protect itself from new threats, primarily those emanating from international terrorism," he said.
"As far as I know, China is actively developing its laws in this sphere and passed a new one half a year ago," Naryshkin said.
Huawei is paying much attention to education and scientific research, he said. "And we pin great hopes to your company's cooperation with Moscow State University in the implementation of such a big project: the construction of a joint Russian-Chinese University on Chinese territory, in Shenzhen," he said.
Russia and China are strategic full-format partners, the Huawei vice president said. "We share same ideas about Internet security, and in this respect we are moving in the same direction," she said.
"On one hand, our intention is to continue to provide quality services in the sphere of information technologies and telecommunications for Russian users. In addition, we are set to broaden our investment in the Russian market," she said.
