Participants in Minsk summit talk to press instead of passing final document - Kremlin spokesman

MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The participants in Tuesday's summit between the leaders of the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union member-states and Ukraine in Minsk decided not to adopt a final document but talk with members of the press instead, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

Opening the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and European Union representatives on Tuesday, Lukashenko had said Belarus had drawn up a final document for the summit and proposed that the participants discuss and adopt it.

"It's true that there was a proposal that the understandings to be reached in the course of the negotiations should be put on paper," Peskov said when asked by Interfax about the document.

However, "to save time, it was found reasonable [later] to set out these results in a direct conversation with the press," he said.

"Actually, each of the presidents, that is, Lukashenko, Putin and Poroshenko, did so, each in their own way," he said.
