Moscow condemns bomb attack in Egypt, calls on Russians not to leave resort areas
MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned a terrorist attack committed in the north of Egypt on Tuesday and called on the Russians staying in this country not to leave the resort areas.
A car bomb was set off near a police station in Mansoura, some 120 kilometers north of Cairo, on December 24. The latest reports indicate that the blast killed 14 and injured over 100 people. The Egyptian authorities have laid the blame for the attack on Muslim Brotherhood and its followers.
"Moscow strongly condemns this crime" and expresses solidarity with the Egyptian authorities' efforts to prevent attempts to destabilize the situation in the country, particularly considering that Egypt plans to hold a referendum on a new constitution in mid-January 2014, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Political disagreements, no matter how sharp they are, should be resolved peacefully and through broad dialogue with the leading political and social forces of the country," it said.
"The Russian Foreign Ministry deems it necessary once again to reaffirm its earlier recommendations to Russians staying in Egypt for tourist purposes that they should exercise caution, not leave the resort areas, and refrain from visiting major cities and districts where an increased terrorist and criminal danger remains in place," it said.
