Family of five killed on Tajik-Kyrgyz border - source
DUSHANBE. Aug 20 (Interfax) - Five family members were shot dead in northern Tajikistan, a high-ranking source in the republic's law enforcement agencies told Interfax.
The mass murder, the second in northern Tajikistan this summer, took place near the border with Kyrgyzstan in the town of Isfara, located 440 kilometers northeast of the Tajik capital Dushanbe.
"A camp field guard, his wife, their two young grandchildren and a young man, the married couple's nephew, were killed," the source said.
"The district where the murder took place is located on the border with Kyrgyzstan's Batken region. Since our states are engaged in a dispute over this territory, the law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are now deciding which country will investigate this crime," he said.
However, the Tajik Interior Ministry has already sent its investigators and experts to Isfara.
A jewelry shop owner, his wife and their three underage children were killed 340 kilometers north of Dushanbe in early June. The crime caused an outcry in Tajik society, where mass murders are extremely rare. However, the investigation into this incident has so far been unsuccessful.
