Prosecutor Yevdokimov's detention officially confirmed
MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - The Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor's Office has confirmed to Interfax that Prosecutor Denis Yevdokimov was detained on Friday in the act of accepting an over 4 million-ruble bribe.
"Yevdokimov was detained on Friday in the act of accepting an over 4 million-ruble bribe. He has been dismissed on the same day for violating the prosecutor's oath," a spokesman for the Moscow Inter-Regional Prosecutor's Office told Interfax on Sunday.
Yevdokimov accepted a 4.25 million ruble bribe in a car "in exchange for cancelling audits on two firms and clearing them to continue their businesses," he said.
"A criminal case has been started against Yevdokimov on charges of accepting a large bribe. The criminal inquiry is being conducted by the department for major crimes of the Russian Investigative Committee's Investigations Department for Moscow," the spokesman said.
A source told Interfax earlier on Sunday that Yevdokimov had been detained by Federal Security Service officers.
