Opposition party names its candidate for Azerbaijan president
BAKU. March 16 (Interfax) - The opposition Umid (Hope) party had nominated its leader, parliament deputy Iqbal Agazade, as its candidate for president of Azerbaijan, the country's ANS television said.
The nomination was made at a meeting of Umid's governing body on Saturday.
The presidential election is set for October 16.
Earlier, ruling party Yeni Azerbaycan (New Azerbaijan) announced that incumbent President Ilham Aliyev would be its candidate.
