Zhirinovsky offers North Korea to join Customs Union, make Russian second official language
MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax) - Russian Liberal Democratic Party leader and parliamentary faction head Vladimir Zhirinovsky has invited North Korea to join the Customs Union.
"We call on the DPRK to join the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan because North Korea is our neighbor. That will create enormous opportunities - money, lots of jobs, nothing but advantages," Zhirinovsky told North Korean Ambassador to Russia Kim Yong Jae on Friday.
He called for major broadening of Russian-North Korean cooperation "up to the opening of the border between the two states."
"Apart from this political offer, we reaffirm the earlier proposal concerning transport: the soonest connection of South and North Korean railroads with the Russian Trans-Siberian rail for carrying cargo from the Pacific to EU ports across Korea and Russia," Zhirinovsky said.
He said he wished Russia had more workers from North Korea than from China. "And that Japanese influence in the Far East lessens in favor of North and, eventually, united Korea," the Liberal Democratic Party press service quoted the party leader.
Zhirinovsky also proposed to make Russian a second official language in North Korea in the future.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has given an interview to Interfax ahead of his visit to Russia on May 16-19 in which he speaks about the goals of his visit, pressing tasks that the UN face, the organization‘s reform, as well as topical issues on the international agenda, including situation in Syria and the Middle East settlement.
