U.S. economic stats heat up Russian stock market
MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The Russian stock market topped the 1520-point market on the MICEX index amid positive movement on world trading floors buoyed by decent new quarterly reports and statistics out of the United States, with MegaFon (RTS: MEGF) and Quadra in the lead.
The MICEX closed up 0.6% at 1523.74 and the RTS index 0.9% at 1585.44 points.
VTB (RTS: VTBR) rose 0.1% on the day, Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) gained 0.9%, Gazprom Neft (RTS: SIBN) 0.2%, Lukoil (RTS: LKOH) 0.3%, Polyus Gold (RTS: PLZL) 0.5%, Rostelecom (RTS: RTKM) 1.6%, Sberbank of Russia (RTS: SBER) 1.2%, Surgutneftegas (RTS: SNGS) 1% (prefs 1.7%), Tatneft (RTS: TATN) 0.8%, and Transneft (RTS: TRNF) 1.5%.
MegaFon rose 4.5% to 803 rubles and Quadra 5.8% to 0.0049 of a ruble.
On the Moscow exchange's second tier, Aeroflot - Russian Airlines (RTS: AFLT) rose 3.1%, IDGC Northern Caucasus (RTS: MRKK) gained 3%, KamAZ (RTS: KMAZ) 2.9%, Mechel (RTS: MTLR) 2.7%, Magnit (RTS: MGNT) 2.1%, and Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) (RTS: MAGN) 1.9%.
O2TV was down 3%, VSMPO-Avisma (RTS: VSMO) 1.7%, TGK-2 (RTS: TGKB) 1.2%, Razgulyay Group (RTS: GRAZ) 0.8%, and Acron (RTS: AKRN) 0.8%.
Combined trading on the exchange's main market amounted to 28.782 billion rubles for the day (with 8.449 billion rubles involved in Sberbank ordinary stock deals), on the Standard sector to $60.416 million and on the Classica sector to $1.514 million.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has given an interview to Interfax ahead of his visit to Russia on May 16-19 in which he speaks about the goals of his visit, pressing tasks that the UN face, the organization‘s reform, as well as topical issues on the international agenda, including situation in Syria and the Middle East settlement.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague has given an interview to Interfax‘ journalist Olga Golovanova ahead of the 2+2 meeting slated for March 13 in London, on which he speaks about the agenda of the upcoming 2+2 talks, the whole range of British-Russian relations, including human rights, as well as pressing international issues notably Syria.
