Georgia opposition leaders accused of colluding with crime bosses to stage riots
TBILISI. Sept 24 (Interfax) - France's National Gendarmerie is investigating a suspected conspiracy between Georgian opposition politicians and France-based Georgian crime barons to stage riots in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, after the parliamentary elections of October 1, said Georgian Deputy Justice Minister Tina Burjeliani.
Burjeliani, who was interviewed by Georgian television company Imedi in Paris, said she and Interior Ministry officials had arrived in the French capital for consultations at the National Gendarmerie.
"This has to do with Georgian crime bosses, namely their ties with some Georgian politicians and an attempt to stage riots in Tbilisi after the parliamentary elections of October 1," she said, adding that she could not disclose any other details but that such details would become public knowledge the next day.
