Interfax Information Services Group has announced the formation of the Interfax Central Europe News Agency. The new agency (www.interfax-centraleurope.com/), headquartered in Warsaw, has incorporated the news services in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which were founded about six years ago. It is aimed at ensuring the further expansion of the Group's activities in the region.

The Interfax newswire in the Russian language has become available to Russian clients of Reuters. This newswire, which has been specially designed for professional financial market players, combines political, corporate, and macroeconomic news affecting market trends, as well as forecasts and comments on the principal market segments. Until recently, Interfax news were available to Reuters subscribers only in English.

GfK-Rus is part of the GfK-Group, a leading international company that specializes in market research.

The service is the first to unite multiple-source official information on all legal entities operating in Russia into one system.

Moody's Investors Service becomes the majority shareholder in Interfax Rating Agency, which is renamed Moody's Interfax Rating Agency.

Interfax and Experian, a leading global information solutions company, form a joint venture to set up a credit bureau, Experian Interfax, for consumers and businesses in Russia.

Interfax Financial News Agency (Interfax-FNA) is set up in September and rapidly becomes the key news source for players at the fledgling Russian financial market.

Interfax Ukraine News Agency is launched, soon to become the country's largest agency. In the following years Interfax will form news agencies in all major countries of the former Soviet Union and in the largest regions of Russia – from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.

In January, Soviet authorities impose closure of Interfax and evict it from its premises. Within hours the Agency resumed activities in the building of the Russian Supreme Soviet, which was then led by Boris Yeltsin, the future first president of Russia. In June Interfax launches the Soviet Business Report, the first business news bulletin in the Soviet Union. In July Interfax opens a company in the United States to sell its products abroad. Within a year sales offices in London and Frankfurt will follow, later in Hong Kong and Warsaw. Interfax's coverage of the August 1991 coup is nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
