Mixed marriage couples to be questioned in Belarus if sham marriagesuspected
MINSK. May 7 (Interfax-) - The Belarusian Interior Ministry says it
plans to use "world experience" to deal with sham marriages between
foreigners and Belarusian citizens.
"The Interior Ministry plans to raise a barrier to sham marriages
between Belarusian citizens and foreigners. We plan to make use of
international experience," Alexei Begun, first deputy head of the
Interior Ministry's Department for Citizenship and Migration told
Interfax on Wednesday.
"The Interior Ministry, following the example of European
countries, will interview mixed marriage couples if law enforcement
agencies have reasons to suspect the marriage is a sham," he said.
"We have received a list of about 60 questions from Lithuanian
colleagues. We think our list will have about 100 questions to be
answered by those whose mixed marriage is deemed questionable by law
enforcement agencies," Begun said.
