Togliatti defense lawyer attacked because of her work - local police
SAMARA. May 7 (Interfax) -The investigation into the attack on
defense lawyer Vera Sokolova is underway, Togliatti police said.
"Sokolova's professional work is considered as the most probable
cause of the attack," it said.
According to earlier reports, an unidentified person attacked
Sokolova at a parking lot in Togliatti on April 15. The weapon has not
been found, but judging by the injuries the woman was beaten with an
iron bar, police said. She was taken to the intensive care department of
a local hospital in a very grave condition; she was unconscious for more
than 24 hours, police said.
A criminal case was opened under the Criminal Code's article 213,
part 1 (hooliganism with the use of weapons). Later the article was
replaced by the article 111 (premeditated bodily injury).
