Interfax launches Interfax-Siberia project

MOSCOW. Nov 4 (Interfax) - The international news agency Interfax Information Services Group has launched a new large-scale regional project, Interfax-Siberia, by starting on November 4 the release of a special newswire related to this federal district.

The Siberia News newswire released in real time provides Interfax subscribers with economic, financial, and political news about all Russian regions incorporated in the Siberian Federal District and also with information about important national and international events.

The Interfax-Siberia main office was opened in the center of the Siberian Federal District, Novosibirsk, on whose basis an Interfax press center has been operating since October 27.

Within the project, Interfax has started news bureaus in the Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Tomsk, Omsk, Chita, and Kemerovo regions, the republics of Buryatia, Khakasia, and Tuva, and in the Altai and Krasnoyarsk territories.

"The Interfax Group has repeatedly declared its strategic plan to set up a system of news agencies in all seven federal districts of Russia, aiming to create a unified informational territory. The launch of the Interfax-Siberia project is yet another important step towards this objective," Interfax Group General Director Mikhail Komissar said in commenting on the new project.

Bearing in mind the vast economic potential of the Siberian Federal District, Interfax intends to attach special significance to detailed information on the performance of fuel and energy, metallurgical, transportation, and machinery construction enterprises, which are attracting the growing interest of Russian and foreign investors.

Interfax-Siberia is the fifth regional project to be launched by the Interfax Group in Russia.

Earlier, the Interfax Group announced the opening of major regional agencies in the Urals, Southern, Volga, and Northwestern Federal Districts (Interfax-Urals, Interfax-South, Interfax-Volga, and Interfax-Northwest).

The group is also planning to open separate news agencies in the Central and Far Eastern Federal Districts.

The Interfax Group has been the leading source of up-to-the-minute information about Russia and the CIS for the international community since the early 1990s. It is the commonly recognized leader in the foreign press in providing information on Russia and is among the most frequently used sources of prompt information in the world.

The structure of the Interfax Group, which was set up in 1989 and currently comprises over twenty companies, incorporates a network of national, regional, and sectoral news agencies operating under the Interfax brand throughout Russia and the CIS, in China, and in a number of Central and East European countries.

Alongside these, the Interfax Group includes organizations engaged in the analytical sphere, the development of special software services, and cooperation with leading international news providers.
