Interfax declared a Best News Agency laureate in NAUFOR Contest

The Interfax News Agency has become a laureate of last year's best news agency in the annual Securities Market Elite competition of the National Association of Securities Market Participants (NAUFOR).

Interfax won such a contest for 2001.

Interfax provides the securities market with general and stock exchange news, analysis, and databases.

It is authorized by the Federal Securities Commission to publish information on Russian companies issuing securities.

Interfax group companies calculate stock exchange indexes, confer credit ratings, and put together rankings of major banks and insurance companies.

"We consider it our priority to supply the market with the whole range of information and analysis it needs," said Vladimir Gerasimov, first deputy general director of Interfax.

"The increasing number of financial instruments on the market and rising criteria for financial information are forcing us to constantly raise our standards in order to keep our leadership."

There were more than 20 specialist nominations in the Securities Market Elite competition.

Winners of the 2002 competition, ceremonially awarded in Moscow on May 27, were selected via polls among traders in Moscow and other parts of Russia.
