Interfax announces launch of Interfax-Volga project

The Interfax group has launched a new major regional project called Interfax-Volga, which as of March 25 2003 will see the publication of news specifically about this federal district.

The Interfax-Volga headquarters is located in the Volga district capital Nizhny Novgorod. It will collect and report news from around the region. Offices have opened in almost all the administrative centers within the Volga federal district, including in Kazan, Ufa, Samara, Cheboksary, Saratov, Perm, etc.

"The Interfax-Volga newswire, in reporting all the region's major political and economic events, will, in our opinion, help not only increase interest in this region, but also raise real investment," Interfax assistant general director Georgy Gulia said.

Presidential Plenipotentiary of the Volga Federal District Sergei Kiriyenko has voiced his support of the Interfax-Volga project. "The launch of a Volga newswire by Interfax, an agency of authority not only in Russia, but around the world, is an important step toward developing the field of information linking our country," he said.

Interfax-Volga is one more step in the agency's program to create major information structures in Russia's federal districts. In 2002, Interfax-Urals and Interfax-South were launched. An Interfax-Northwest newswire is also in operation.

Interfax Information Agency, part of the Interfax Information Services Group, was created in Moscow in 1989. In its 14 years, Interfax has won a leading position on the market of political, economic, financial and sector information from Russia, the CIS, Eastern Europe and China.

The Interfax information distribution network has tens of thousands of clients in Russia, the CIS and many other countries. These include government organizations, ministries and official departments, major international corporations and banks, and leading world media outlets.

Interfax has a wide network of offices abroad, including in the United States, Britain, Germany, China and various Eastern European states.
