Russia's MAKS 2024 aerospace show to be cancelled - sources

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - The MAKS International Aviation and Space Show, expected to take place this summer in Zhukovsky in Russia's Moscow region, has been cancelled, three sources in the aviation industry told Interfax.

The sources mentioned neither the reason for the cancellation, nor the new presumed date that the show would be held on. The decision to cancel the show has been made in principle, but has not been formalized yet, one of the sources said.

The MAKS aerospace show was supposed to be held on June 25-30, 2023, but Interfax's sources said last spring that the event would be postponed to 2024. A number of media outlets said with reference to their sources that the decision was made for security reasons. The company organizing the aerospace show, Aviasalon JSC, later confirmed that the event had been postponed to 2024, adding that it would be held in 2025 as well.

The MAKS International Aviation and Space Show is a biennial event hosted at the Gromov Flight Research Institute's airfield in the town of Zhukovsky outside Moscow. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Rostec state corporation, and Aviasalon JSC are the organizers. The MAKS show was held for the first time in 1993.
