EU allocates 4.5 mln euros to finance 65 projects for 324 Ukrainian researchers - Ukrainian Education and Science Ministry

MOSCOW. May 3 (Interfax) - The European Union has decided to allocate 4.5 million euros to fund 65 projects pursued by 324 Ukrainian researchers, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the Education and Science Ministry.

"The European Commission has tripled the initial budget of the Eurizon Fellowship Program to 4.5 million euros under Horizon Europe to provide continuous support to Ukrainian research," the ministry said.

The EU-funded Eurizon project launched the Remote Research Grants for Researchers from Ukraine fellowship program in April 2023. Initially, the Eurizon project was designed to support around 22 teams totaling approximately 90 researchers, with a budget of 1.5 million euros. "However, after receiving 730 applications, the Commission increased financing, deciding in January 2024 to triple the initial allocated budget to 4.5 million euros to fund 65 projects and 324 researchers," it said.

The Eurizon program should have significant positive impacts on the work of Ukrainian researchers, including the opportunity to restart their projects, conduct cutting-edge research, establish stable contact with international partners, broaden research dissemination, access foreign university libraries, retain IT specialists, and identify trends and best practices in public management, the ministry said.

A total of 324 Ukrainian researchers will receive funding to pursue 65 projects in fields such as physical science and engineering (38%), environment (15%), social and cultural innovation (15%), health and food (14%), energy (10%), data, computing, and digital research infrastructures

(6%).
